Programme
Celebrated prima ballerina Anastasia Volochkova will be dancing at Sadler's Wells on Monday 30 October with a host of other ballet stars, to raise money for a very special school in Russia.
In this rare London appearance, Anastasia will be dancing in popular classics and works by leading choreographers created specially for her - including one of her favourite pieces, 'Eternal Love'. This is a romantic story of a young lady whose fate takes her from one 'encounter' to another, and from happiness to loneliness and bitterness - until she finally finds peace.

|
|
Anastasia Volochkova will be joined by dancers:
Mark Peretokin (Bolshoi)
Yevgeny Ivanchenko (Kirov)
Rinat Arifulin (Bolshoi)
Yuliana Malkhasyants (Bolshoi).
They will be accompanied by the Russian Orchestra of London, conducted by Alexander Walker.

Haydn Symphony No.91
Strauss Don Juan
Dvorak Cello Concerto
This is a special concert given by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in support of The Life Line Programme in Russia. Haydn's taut and inventive style reached its zenith in his later symphonies, works unsurpassed in quality by any later composer. This Symphony in E flat was one of the works Haydn presented in England in the late 1790s. The tone poem Don Juan brought the 20-year-old Richard Strauss international and lasting success. Strauss took as his inspiration the unfinished play by Nikolaus Lenau, which charts the lover's heroic decline from transient sexual abandon to his downfall; the musical depiction literally explodes with orchestral virtuosity and original effects. Dvorak's symphonic Cello Concerto, written at the end of the composer's final visit to the USA, unites New World themes with Slavonic pathos while exploring the whole range of the instrument.
